Why Abby Sciuto is My Favorite Goth

Ever watched the TV series NCIS?  If so, you know my all-time favorite goth, Abby Sciuto.  Yes, I know, she's so... perky.  Not to mention being a TV character instead of a REAL GIRL.  But she's smart, funny, loyal to a fault, has the most incredible wardrobe, plays New Orleans jazz tapes at funerals, and actually puts gothdom in a pretty positive (and impressive) light.  She breaks most of the stereotypes, and, according to one of those polls you've probably never heard of, is currently the most popular character on TV.

Here are some of the reasons I like her character so much:

Her clothes.

Her sense of humor... and her clothes.

Her choice in men... and her clothes.

Her sense of adventure... and her clothes.

Her incredible intelligence... and her clothes.

Did I mention I love her clothes???

Who's YOUR favorite goth?  Are they a real person or an invented character?  What do you love about them, and why?

  1. I LOVE ABBY! LOVE HER! Actually, believe it or not, her character is based on a real, live person. Paulie insisted that she meet the real, live person so Abby the character is a combo of Paulie and her. :) Pretty cool.

My favorite Goth ... hmmm ... my favorite invented character is also Abby, and for all the reasons you posted. My favorite real live Goth? I have a lot of people who I think are cool looking, some I know and some I only see (saw) on the dance floor. There was this one woman who had to be at in her late 40s in 1997 -- she ruled the dance floor with her flowing skirts and long, oversized velvet shirts. She was totally old school and her dancing gave her away! She clawed her way through Goth sets, clove cigarette in hand. She was awesome!

I also love my Ed because he really keeps it real. For him (and for me) Goth can't be anything without the music and he really keeps our house stocked with all the old and new music. :) Plus, back in the day, he wore makeup and nail polish better than most of the girls I knew! He took the goth-androgyny look to the ultimate and was pretty darned hot doing so. ;)

    1. Oh, goody, I'm not the only one! :-) I didn't know Abby is based on two real people rather than just Pauley, so thank you for the info!

You and Ed are lucky to share that. I do wish, just a little, that Martin was goth, or at least had goth leanings. But he frequently will decide to change clothes to better 'match' me if we're going somewhere and I get all gothed up, so I really can't complain!

  2. Hmm...I'd have to say that my favorite Goth would be Lisbeth, played by Nooni Rapace, from the original Swedish versions of the "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" trilogy. She was totally awesome!

    1. I haven't read the books OR seen the movies. I've heard so many conflicting things, both good and bad. It seems I've got more homework to do... Thanks!

  3. There is one scene in "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" (the last of the three) that I consider especially delicious. It takes place in the courtroom and Lisbeth's demeanor in that one scene is priceless. Anyway, she's my favorite Goth--excepting personal friends of course.

    1. Now you've got me curious! I wonder if that scene is anywhere on YouTube...

  4. Even if it is on YouTube, you'd really have to have watched the films and understand all that Lisbeth went through in order to realize the full impact from that scene.

    1. In that case, I won't spoil it by watching the scene out of context. Thanks for the heads-up.

  5. I love her, I used to watch the serie just too see her clothing :D
My favourite gothic lady is Amy Lee, even though she might not be soooo goth all the time. And Morticia Addams is also on the top of my list!

    1. Yes, I like the series pretty well, but Abby is the main reason I watch it. Even if I'm not watching, I'll come in if I hear her voice on the TV.

Morticia Addams is a Goth QUEEN, IMHO!! Even more so than Vampira or Elvira, although they both rock, too. I'm not really familiar with Amy Lee, so I looked her up, and she IS gorgeously goth. Thanks for introducing me to her! :-)

  6. Oooh I love her! Hmm my favorite would probably have to be Wednesday Addams because she doesn't care what others think. Also people teased me in high school and called me Wednesday Addams and I took it as a compliment. I also really like Lydia from Beetlejuice :D because she isn't afraid to be herself either and she had really rad hair.

    1. Oh, Wednesday and Lydia are definitely runners-up! Especially Wednesday because of all the neat and imaginative ways she tortured her brother, and did it without so much as a smirk... ;-)

  7. This is a fun post! I really love it that Abby is making goths more "acceptable" to the public. I actually get random strangers complimenting me and telling me I remind them of "that girl from NCIS". We need more positive SMART gothy types like Abby in the media!

  8. I really like Abby too :) and Morticia Addams (I prefer her better than Lily Munster). And I really LOVE Roman Dirge's Lenore. She's the cutest thing ever *w*

    1. I'd never seen Lenore, so I just looked her up. Hilarious!! And the drawing style seriously reminds me of the Invader Zim cartoon series, which has a goth guy in it. Thanks for mentioning her, she's great! :-)
