I just found this most awesome picture!!! I adore flamingos, so finding a pic of a rare BLACK flamingo was a real treat:
This photograph, taken by Don Presser of Carmel, shows what could be the world's only "documented" black flamingo, in a salt pond in Eilat, Israel. Other photos have been taken in the Middle East of what is believed to be the same bird. (DAN PRESSER/Contributed photo)
Isn't it gorgeous???? I hope there are more out there somewhere!!
He's a beauty. I hope he's not like black from oil or something.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not. If you look at his legs, they are pink right from the top down, even though his feathers are black. Oil would have made his legs black as well.
DeleteMy sister-in-law lives in Eilat! I'll have to check to see if she was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of him. What a beautiful bird!
ReplyDeleteWow, I hope she did get to see it! :-)
DeleteYes! Gothmingo!
ReplyDeleteOh, I LOVE that!! :-)
DeleteI didn't know that black flamingos existed.
ReplyDeleteNeither did I. I guess they are VERY rare; I'd love to know the genetics on that. Who knows, perhaps this is the only one!
DeleteHA! I love Laura's, "Gothmingo". This is so topical for me because my husband is currently working on a fab flamingo graphic design project. I'll have to share it on the blog when it's all complete. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, please!! I'd love to see and hear about it! And I agree, "gothmingo" is awesome, hehehe... :-)
DeleteSqueee! This is too awesome - an ACTUAL gothic flamingo! <3 What a beauty, thanks for sharing the pic :)
ReplyDeleteHehe, I knew you would just love it!! You are most welcome. :-)
