Memento Mori

Today is the 20th anniversary of my father's death.  From now until his birthday, November 15, my favorite picture of him (taken by me) will sit in my office, and I will remember him and the little I know about his life.  I do this every year as a tribute to one of the most important people in my life, although I never lived with him and didn't really know him very well.

"He who can be named is remembered; he who is remembered, lives."

  1. What a sweet way to pay tribute to your father! I'm lucky and still have both of my parents, but I could start something like this for my grandparents. I usually just remember them everytime I use a skill I learned from them...

    1. I think that's a great way to remember someone, when you do something they taught you. ;-) As long as you remember them, that's the important thing.

  2. That's really nice :3 I always visit my mums grave on the anniversary of her death and I think a lot about her during the months afterwards.

    1. You're lucky that you live close enough to her cemetery to be able to do that. That's going to be the REALLY hard one for me, when my mom dies. We have always been very close, and losing her will be devastating.

  3. (((HUGS))) Much love to you, my darling friend. Gee, I've finally mustered enough resolve to write out the "thank you" cards today for Mom's funeral, wake, etc. I'll be thinking of you as I write them.

    1. Thank you, and hugs back!! It's so hard, isn't it... I've been thinking of you often, and reading your posts. I'm glad you've got loved ones and friends around you to help you through this. I'll be thinking of YOU today, as well.

  4. I'm also fortunate enough to still have both of my parents but I think of their aging often and can already feel that which you're experiencing right now. The best to you as you remember.

    1. Thank you. Enjoy them while you can! I was shocked yesterday to realize how long it had actually been; it seems like just a few years ago. And to realize he would have been 90 years old next month is even weirder. Parents aren't supposed to get old, but obviously no one ever told them that...
