The Just Kidz Scary Fashion Doll Set comes with one doll, two outfits and accessories (including a purse and boots), and a coffin-shaped wardrobe to store her stuff in. The shoes she's wearing are pretty cool, I wouldn't mind having a pair (in my size, of course). Ms. Scary has three tattoos, one on her face, one on her left arm, and one on her right leg. She actually has a pretty nice face, too, with appropriate amounts of shadow and liner, and a deep red lipstick. AND she's got white streaks in her hair; you can see a little in the closeup. No fangs, thank goodness, that would have been just a bit over the top.
While I really like the doll and her accessories, it interests me that they chose to call her "scary". WHAT exactly is scary about this doll? Now Bratz dolls are scary, with their oversized heads and weird legs that come off when you want to change their shoes! And Monster High dolls are supposed to be creepy, with their fangs, scars and the occasional bony arms or legs. But THIS one??? Nope. She's a minus-5 on the Scare-O-Meter. All I can think of is that whoever created the Just Kidz line is afraid of goths. ;-)
Anyway, time for me to go home and play...
What makes YOUR Inner Goth Child happy?
what makes my goth child happy? i like to make myself up all sickly. you know.. foundation about 3 shades lighter than my natural skintone, some dark circles under the eyes, smeared eyeliner, some red around the nose. it pleases me. i find that if i look like i feel i'm a lot more comfortable in my own skin. :-P
ReplyDeleteHehehe, I can definitely see how that would make some inner (and outer) children happy, goth or not! ;-)
DeleteBefore even reaching the end of your post I came to the same conclusion as you: The creator of this line must think that Goths are scary.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes my inner Goth child happy? I'd have to say watching a good horror movie or creepy dolls. Sometimes when I'm feeling down, nothing makes me laugh more than looking at creepy doll galleries.
So then, my question becomes, why MAKE a Goth doll if you think Goths are scary?? People are weird.
DeleteI definitely agree on the horror movies. Not sure about creepy dolls, though, they make me nervous! I think I've seen too many horror movies about them...
Honestly, I'm seriously thinking of buying a monster high doll, buying my own doll for the first time of my life .
ReplyDeleteYour scary copy is a quite soft one and very pretty. I would buy one to sew mini clothes for.
When I was a little girl I got a barbiedoll and my grandmother sew the most amazing dresses for her.
Oh, DO get it for yourself, you deserve it! :-)
DeleteI also had a Barbie when I was growing up, and while we did buy some clothes for her, my mom made quite a few also. She found patterns in the store for them, and used leftovers from the clothes she made for us, as well as getting some remnants at the fabric store. The clothes she made were much nicer and better made than the store-bought ones. Our moms and grandmothers rock!! :-)
I'm thinking of making clothes for my new doll as well. I know I can find patterns! And I think I'm going to name her Kitty Noir. Too bad we live so far apart, or we could get together for play dates! :-)
