Wow, I'm a Scary Goth!!!

Well, I never thought THIS would happen, and I just had to share.

On Monday at work I wore my Misfits sweater from Hot Topic:

As I was opening the restroom door to leave, a coworker was walking up to the door to go in.  She looked at me, shrieked, and hopped backward!  Then she said my sweater startled her, and we both burst out laughing.

I've worn this sweater to work several times, but never had a reaction like that!  Have you ever actually scared someone with what you were wearing (and it wasn't Halloween)???

  1. That is too funny! I cant say I scared someone but I did have a neighbor that was convinced I was a devil worshipper LOL

    1. Hmmm, I'd say you probably DID scare your neighbor! All that black, you've either got to be a widow, a nun, or a devil worshipper! :-)

I have another friend whose neighbors think the same thing, and they kept calling the cops on her for random things. I forget what she finally did, but they seem to have stopped (knock on wood!).

  2. Ha ha. My Jack Skellington hoodie used to make me feel safer coming home from work late because no weirdos ever came up to me and talked to me when I was wearing it. Although that was possibly more because it hid my bodyshape and made me less attractive to hit on, ha ha.

    1. Oh, I LIKE that, very sweet!! I've got Jack Skellington fingerless gloves, but somehow I don't think they would have the same effect. :-(

    2. I actually get more compliments on my Jack Skellington hoodie than any other piece of clothing. I also get carded for alcohol when I'm wearing it so I suppose I look like a kid :p

    3. Okay, between the two of you, you are making me want to have one of my own!

  3. When I was in high school, I was corned in a bathroom by a uber religious girl who said I was going to hell for worshiping the devil. I was wearing a MULTI-COLOR ankh shirt which she said was a mark of Satan. It was the only piece of clothing that I owned that wasn't black. When I wore it my folks were thrilled. *Shrug* Not sure if that counts but it's what sticks.

    1. ROFL, that definitely counts! What an ignorant dweeb (her, not you)! As I've often said, I refuse to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed person. Obviously, you have the same high standard! ;-)

Must have been a truly awesome shirt if you broke your "black only" rule for it. I've seen a few shirts with ankhs on them, but they really weren't all that great. I'd definitely get one if it was good, though!

    2. True. Very true.

When I was a teen in the late 80s, there was a store in the mall called Up Against The Wall which eventually turned HipHop and was probably like a forerunner to Hot Topic. Anyway, they had eyeball rings and all kinds of jewelry and clothing that teen Me couldn't afford. I don't recall when I bought the shirt but it was filled with black, purple, monster green, and maybe orange ankhs. They were clustered all over and on top of each other going every which way. I loved that shirt. Where oh where did it ever end up...sigh.

  4. lol that is so awesome! I don't think my clothing has scared anyone but I've definitely scared others walking around the building at night (i work 3rd) not knowing who else was here.

    1. Yeek, that would scare me as well! Heheh, maybe you should wear a bell so that people know you are there? ;-)

  5. I can't say that I've actually scared anyone specifically but from time to time small children hide behind their mothers when I pass by. One lady I see around often compliments me on my shirts, but then again, she's goth herself.

    1. It's funny how some little kids tend to do that, while others will just walk right up to you and ask, "Why do you dress like that?" I personally prefer their honest questions, although my son was one of those who would rather hide behind me when he was young. Not anymore, thank goodness!

I guess it's just how we are wired, like when people are startled they will either take a step forward or a step back. Except for those, like me, who simply freeze and don't move, which is very annoying to those who are trying to get a reaction!

    2. Well actually, I was passing by the public library a couple of weeks ago. I'd just been to the Halloween store and had my new creepy marionette with me. A school bus was being loaded with elementary school kids. One of them as me, "Hey, who are you?" I revealed my goth-girl marionette and said, "ha!" The entire class screamed. I'm sure the teacher standing nearby was impressed with me.

But that's me, spreading creepy good cheer to all those who desire it.

  6. Haha people often react when they see my necklace with skeletonhands, it's so weird, I'm so used to all my skulls and "scary prints" so it's hard to understand those people xD

    1. Sounds like a great necklace! And yes, I guess I'm so used to my stuff that it never occurs to me that someone else might be creeped out by any of it. Although my mom did ask me once a couple of months ago if I had ANY tops that didn't have skulls on them... ;-)

  7. LOLZ wow that is hilarious. I have scared people with my entire look before. I've had people scoot away from me when I have my coffin purse. It is pretty funny.

    1. Hehe, that WOULD be funny! They were probably afraid you might kill them and then hide the body in your purse! ;-)
